Ben Mulvey, Anya Dwane and Mackenzie Condon are the winners of the Mom of the Year essay contest held in conjunction with the Edgartown Board of Trade’s Pink & Green Weekend. The three winners read their essays and acknowledged their moms during a Mother’s Day brunch at the Harbor View Hotel.

“My mom is the best mom because she reads us books every single night,” wrote Edgartown second grader Ben Mulvey about his Mom, Erika. “After that she snuggles with us until we fall asleep, even if it takes us a long time. Sometimes she falls asleep, too.”

“One of the most important things she did for me was that she traveled across the world and brought me and my little brother home to our forever family which gave me three older brothers,” wrote West Tisbury third grader Anya Dwane about her mom, Lynn.

Edgartown fifth grader Mackenzie Condon wrote about her mom, Carlene Gatting, and the many ways she volunteers to make the Island a better place. “How could a Mom that spends her time working to make better lives for others not be the best Mom?”

The essay contest had nearly 50 contestants, and was sponsored by the Harbor View Hotel, Maggie’s Salon and Holiday Public Relations & Events.
