Who could have asked for a better Memorial Day weekend? The weather was great and I even heard that some people went in the water. To that I say brrrrr, but they enjoyed it and it made some personal records of the first swim of the season.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Nathaniel Garcia and Micah Simmons, who celebrated their day May 26; Dauphine Michel, who celebrated her day May 28, and to Michelle Herrick, who celebrated her day May 31.

Special birthday wishes go out to my hubby Ralph, who will celebrate his day on June 3. Here is to a very happy day and too many more birthdays.

Memorial Day has come and gone and we all survived. There was more traffic but that is expected and the Stop & Shop was very busy. Even though it was crazy, it is always great to see people you have not seen all winter and now they are here opening their houses for the summer.

There is talk around town about the entrance to Edgartown at the Triangle where there is a new sign welcoming our visitors and some nice plants to make the town welcoming. I have heard positive feedback and think it will look great when everything is blossoming.

On Tuesday, Tom Dresser will speak at the Edgartown Library at 7 p.m. He will discuss the inspiration for his new book, Disaster Off Martha’s Vineyard: The Sinking of the City of Columbus.

This weekend is the Relay for Life. It has been a growing event over the years and if you have a chance, try to stop by the track at the regional high school beginning today. There are many events but the most touching is the survivors lap, and then the lighting of the luminarias to honor loved ones who are living with or have lost their battle with cancer.

This is a short week for news. If you have anything to share or have a special person graduating from college or schoos, no matter what age, send me a message.

Speaking of graduating, congratulations to my neighbor Zack Waller, who just graduated from Cornell University. Rumor has it he wants to pursue his graduate degree abroad.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
