After a second week of postseason action, two more Vineyard teams advanced to the next round, while two others had first-round exits.

Both tennis teams advanced to the second round of the playoffs. The girls swept Seekonk in their shortest match of the season Friday and the boys similarly took down Hanover on Monday.

The boys’ matches were held at the Vineyard Tennis Center after rainy conditions forced the competition indoors; time limits on court usage forced the matches to played as eight-game pro sets.

Tournament play continues today with the girls’ quarterfinals match against Fairhaven at 2:30 p.m., also held at the Vineyard Tennis Center. The boys will play the winner of today’s Seekonk/Cape Cod Academy match tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the regional high school.

The softball team traveled to Medfield last Friday, falling 4-1 and closing their season with a 10-11 record.

On Sunday, the baseball team took on Dover-Sherborn in an away game and lost a heartbreaker in 13 innings. The Vineyarders scored their first and only run in the first inning after a Ramon Espino ground-rule double brought senior Noah Stobie home. Dover-Sherborn scored one run in the fourth inning. The game remained tied 1-1 until the bottom of the 13th inning, more than two and a half hours after the players had taken the field. With the bases loaded, Dover-Sherborn scored after their player’s hit bounced off relief pitcher Ryan Fisher’s shoe.

“It was a really emotional game for the kids,” head coach Gary Simmons said. “Once you get the bottom of the seventh, it’s nail-biting. The team went in six times facing elimination.”

The Vineyarders finished their season with a 12-9 record.
