Please Adopt Us
On Saturday, June 16, the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard will host the annual Blessing of the Animals. There will be an open house and tour of the shelter from 1 to 3 p.m., and Father Nagel will conduct the blessing beginning at 2 p.m. All animals are welcome; dogs should be on leashes and all other animals should be in carriers or cages. The shelter is located on Pennywise Path behind the Vineyard Veterinary Clinic in Edgartown. Refreshments will be served and you will get a chance to meet the staff and see the cats available for adoption.
They are: Deacon, a sweet ginger tiger; Barley, a female white kitty with tortoiseshell markings; Butter and Chloe, two lovely tortoiseshells who have been at the shelter for too long; Celia, the shelter mascot who loves to greet people; Mango, an older ginger female with a sweet disposition; Panchie, a loving cat whose owner just died; and Thor, a big, beautiful sweet-natured black cat whose size matches his name.
The shelter also has a guinea pig named Zoey who is brown with a striking tan nose and a white lucky stripe around her middle.
Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
