It may not be the sort of event you want to celebrate, but it is worthy of note.

National Mosquito Control Awareness Week begins Sunday, June 24, and the County of Dukes County is asking you to do all you can to keep unwanted guests from buzzing around your summer fun.

The county urges people to empty water from flower pot trays, toys and unused containers, and to take old tires, washing machines and refrigerators to the transfer stations to prevent the laying of mosquito eggs. In addition, people should use mosquito spray often and schedule outdoor activities for when mosquitoes are least active.
