What a beautiful and action-packed Fourth Wednesday was!

Of course, the Fourth brought the Bermans: Allan and Michele are back for their 15th year on-Island. All the grandkids are here for this weekend, six of them. Son M.J. and his wife, Annie Lou, of Washington, D.C., have brought Teddy, now two and a half; Charlie, now four and a half; and one-year-old twins Scottie and Nell. The twins are celebrating their first birthday here, as well as their first Island visit. They all enjoyed the parade on Wednesday. The boys can’t wait to have horseback riding lessons and swim. All tennis rackets are with them. Court time is in order.

Son Greg and his wife, Carolyn, are here from Brooklyn. They brought Hannah, now 13, and Milly, now nine. Milly made all the cupcakes from scratch for the twins’ birthday party. They are thrilled to be back on their favorite island and are ready to kayak, swim and play with their cousins. I’ll never forget when Hannah was a wee one and took a pair of scissors to help cut the grass. Welcome back, Bermans!

Greta Kotova, a dedicated worker at Cumby’s last season, writes that she is missing the Island terribly. Greta, originally from Bulgaria, is working in the U.K. this summer. A big hello to all her friends here.

The smell of barbecues and the sweet sounds of parties emanated from Lenny’s Loop yesterday. Bill and Jan Stokes have two of their children, Wes and Carrie, visiting with the dogs. The Howes house is bursting with the East Brunswick clan, daughter Julia and son-in-law Javier, grandchildren Aidan and Olivia. The kids are even taller. How does that happen? They were all in Fourth of July mode; they will be here for a week and beach, fly horses and party.

Bring kids age five and up to our library from 2 to 3 p.m. on Monday, July 9. They will meet our famous MV Sharks baseball team, eat baseball-themed food (I’m guessing hot dogs?), make baseball crafts and win a ticket to Monday night’s game. How’s that for take me out to the ballpark? Otherwise, all regularly scheduled programs for story time, tweens, and teens remain in place.

Stan Murphy’s son, David, will present a slide show of his famous father’s work and their family life. This presentation will be at the Katharine Cornell Theatre on Thursday, July 12 at 5:30 p.m. It is brought to you by the Martha’s Vineyard Museum. Stan’s grandson, John, will play music on Stan’s Martin guitar. Admission is $8 for museum members and $12 for non-members. Call Brie at 508-627-4441, extension 110 to reserve your seat.

Anniversary bouquets go out to Steve and Judy Nichols on July 9. Their huge family and our town wishes them the best.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along Carol Fleming and Kerry Sertl today. July 7 honors Kyle Natichioni, Cathy Burdick and Julie Fisher. July 8 is claimed by Jordan Stallings. July 9 is a party for Nancy Hoffmann, Richard Clark, Bruce Bailey, Betty Cormier and Nathan Herrick. July 10 shines on Russell Burrows, Ketyln Carolyn Alves and Orla O’Connor. July 11 is for Alden Besse and Denny Freitas. And on July 12, Veraniece Martins takes the cake. Many happy returns.
