It’s summer on Winter street in Edgartown and there’s a block party going on tomorrow.

The businesses housed in the small complex known as Nevin Square on this main side street in downtown Edgartown will be hosting a family-friendly block party on Saturday, July 21 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Spearheaded by Tanya Patnaude, who recently opened a bath and body products store called Huckleberry Pink, it is the first block party event to be held in Nevin Square. Ms. Patnaude said the idea came about because business owners in the Square are not competitive; rather they act like one family unit. The event marks an important collaboration among shopkeepers, Ms. Patnaude said. “We want to convey that Nevin Square is all-in-one shopping.”.

The party features music from local young musicians, a dance performance by Grant Meachum, a performance by the Purple Shirts improvisation group, a show given by the IMPers theatre group, face painting, lemonade and barbecue food.

The Vineyard Vines whale mascot will make an appearance alongside the Huckleberry Pink Men, who will hand out free gifts in pink suits. The Purple Shirts perform at 4 p.m., and the IMPers teen improv group performs at 6 p.m. A raffle of goods donated by Nevin Square businesses will benefit the Martha’s Vineyard Boys’ and Girls’ Club.
