The folksinger Greg Brown got his first professional gig in the 1960’s at the age of 18, running hootenannies at the New York city club, Gerde’s Folk City. From there he moved west to Portland and then to Los Angeles and Las Vegas, where he was a ghostwriter for Buck Ram, the founder of The Platters. Eventually, he founded his own record label, named Red House Records, where musicians Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Eliza Gilkyson, John Gorka, Lucy Kaplansky, John McCutcheon and Pat Donohue, to name but a few, have recorded over the years.

During the 1980s, Mr. Brown began a long-running collaboration with A Prairie Home Companion.

All this is to say that Mr. Brown has had a long and celebrated career as both a folk musician and producer. But this is not some theoretical pumping up of a legend, merely to educate the reader. This is an announcement that Mr. Brown is coming to town, the town of Oak Bluffs to be specific. The show is tomorrow, July 28, beginning at 8 p.m. at Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs.

Bo Ramsey, who often plays with Mr. Brown and Lucinda Williams on her Grammy-winning album Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, will open the show.

Advance tickets are $27.50 on sale at Alley’s Store, Island Entertainment, Scottish Bakehouse, Above Ground Records and the Oak Bluffs General Store. Tickets at the door are $35. And because this is a show produced by KCT concerts, children under 12 are free.
