David Driskell

David Driskell is a painter, collector of art and one of the leading authorities on African American art. He is an emeritus professor of art at the University of Maryland where in 2001 the David C. Driskell Center for the Study of the Visual Arts and Culture of African Americans and the African Diaspora was created to celebrate his legacy.

All this is to say, if Mr. Driskell is in the neighborhood, you should go see what he has to say. And speaking of in-the-neighborhood, on Saturday, August 18, at 5 p.m. Mr. Driskell will give a talk at St. Andrew’s Church in Edgartown. The event features a screening of the documentary film about Mr. Driskell, too, as well as an appearance by Charlayne Hunter-Gault who will introduce the event.

The program is sponsored by the Edgartown Public Library and is free.
