The Holmes Hole Sailing Association continued its Thursday evening series of handicap sailboat racing from Vineyard Haven harbor with a 6 p.m. race on August 23. It was a warm evening with a moderate south-southwest wind of about 10 knots. Twenty-one boats posted at the start at red nun 6 outside of the Vineyard Haven breakwater, making three Thursday nights in a row with 20-plus starters. A triangle course was set with the fleet sailing to green can 23A at East Chop, then to red nun 4 at West Chop, and returning to red nun 6.

Finishing first was Phil Hale in the Shields, Wicked. In second was Roger Becker in the C&C 24, Gloria. In third was Stephen Besse in the J-120, Apres.

The season continued with the Robinson’s Hole Rendezvous on August 26. Fourteen boats posted for the start at 10 a.m. start at nun 6 on a beautiful late summer morning with a moderate east northeast wind of 5-10 knots.

In the A division, first was Roger Becker in the C&C 24, Gloria. In second was Jerry Goodale in the Pearson 31, Stormalong. Third was Irving Gates in the Sabre 38, King Kiwi.

In the B division, first was Woody Bowman in the Custom Cat, Julia Lee. In second was Stuart Halpert in the Ensign, Providence. In third were John and Lisa Stout in the Gannon and Benjamin sloop, Isabella.

The summer series continues with a night race at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, and concludes with two Harbor races on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. New members are actively encouraged, as are guest boats. Join on the web at HolmesHole.org or Contact Kathy Logue at 693-7074.
