So far November has been quite the month for celebrations despite the storms. Reports of another northeaster is in the air.
Thank you to Allison Colarusso, Molly Purves and Lisa Bibko Vanderhoop who went above and beyond decorating the Aquinnah town hall for the Halloween celebration this year. Despite dealing with the storms, Aquinnah should be proud of the voters who were in for the election — from the many newly-registered 18 year olds who understood the significance of casting their ballots, all the way up to our 102-year-old elder in Aquinnah.
The Gay Head Lighthouse Committee is forming. If you would like to serve, please send your letter of intent to Adam Wilson, town administrator, by Wednesday, Nov. 21.
Congratulations to Naushon Vanderhoop and Vernon Powell on the birth of their daughter Nanawusuwee Roxane on Nov. 5 in Manhattan. She was born at 7:04 p.m. and weighed 7 pounds, 6.5 ounces and is 20 3/4 inches long. She was welcomed into the world by her parents and by her grandmothers Roxane Ackerman and Beatrice Patadal, who were present at her birth.
Many Aquinnah residents attended the grand celebration for Trudy Taylor on Nov. 7 at the Chilmark Community Center. There had to have been at least 90 cakes to observe, with one for each year. The hall was beautifully decorated with many bonsai trees and the desserts were abundant, but the best part was the love of Trudy’s family and many friends surrounding her. Family photographs were taken with Trudy on her “throne.”
Molly Purves was honored on Saturday evening, Nov. 10, on the occasion of her 40th birthday with a celebration at The Yard where celebrants danced the night away.
The Aquinnah community wished Cathy Thompson a happy retirement on Tuesday evening as she retires as the Aquinnah Public Library director. The new director, Lisa Sherman of Edgartown, will begin her duties on Nov. 20.
Linda Alley, farmers’ market organizer, would like to remind everyone of the indoor market on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury. Join in the fun with live music, lunch in front of the fireplace, and items from 23 vendors including vegetables, turkeys and desserts in time for Thanksgiving. Visit with Pam Glavin of Pam’s Pesto and Juli Vanderhoop of the Orange Peel Bakery. Stop by for a few jars of Linda Alley’s New Lane jams and jellies. Linda reports that the indoor market will be held every other Saturday until the end of December.
The American Legion Auxillary will sponsor a holiday bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their headquarters on Martin Road in Tisbury. There will be baked goods, a bazaar table and a white elephant table.
The First Baptist Church will sponsor an Interfaith Thanksgiving service on Tuesday, Nov. 20. For further information, please call 508-693-1539.
Phil Weinstein will be the guest speaker on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Vineyard Haven Library where he will discuss Carver’s Cathedral.
Jenna Petersiel and her furry friend Marley departed this week for their home in Swampscott after another successful summer season at the Chilmark Tavern.
