A new star is shining over our Island. Whitney Fulp and Bruno Rodrigues have a baby boy, Lucas Rockefeller Rodrigues. You all know beautiful, tall, blond Whitney from her hard work at Stop & Shop and Cumberland Farms. Hopefully we’ll see her out and about soon with Lucas in tow.
Anna Duarte thanks all who have helped and supported her. She has just spent a week visiting with her daughter, and is up and about and driving again.
The Grace Church pre-school will hold its annual Turkey Run tomorrow. The fun commences at Bunch of Grapes at 9 a.m. Friends, alumni and supporters are asked for a $5 donation to join. This year teacher Bryna Cronin will be wearing a turkey suit and running with the kids. Contact Penny Wong at gracepreschoolmv@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Louisa Gould is everywhere, seemingly at once. This Vineyard Haven photographer with the fabulous gallery on our Main street has traveled to over 100 countries and territories. Share some of the trips with her on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Vineyard Haven Public Library. Some of her never before released photos will be of Antarctica, Burma, Cambodia, Morroco, Fiji, Viet Nam, Egypt, Cuba . . . whew! I’m tired just thinking about it. This talk is part of the Sunday with Friends series presented monthly at the library. For more information, please stop by or visit the library website at vhlibrary.org.
In other library news, be there on Tuesday Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. to hear professor Philip Weinstein give the third in his lecture series about four top American short story writers. Tuesday’s program will study Raymond Carver’s Cathedral. Books are available through CLAMS or at the library front desk. The program is free and refreshments will be served. Can’t beat that for a cold Tuesday night.
I have not been able to check out the new film center at our Tisbury Marketplace, but I will on Friday night, Nov. 23 when the film A Late Quartet will be presented. The acclaimed musicians are performing Saturday Nov. 24 at the Old Whaling Church and will give a live preview before the film begins. This is a beautiful holiday concert and a great way to entertain your Thanksgiving guests. For more information, visit mvfilmsociety.com. I’ll see you there.
Speaking of Thanksgiving, let’s keep in mind all of our friends and families still suffering from Hurricane Sandy and the following gale. It breaks my heart to see the devastation in the tri-state area. I personally know two families who have lost their homes, one to the fire in Breezy Point and one to the waves in Sandy Hook. Keep all in mind for your Thanksgiving prayers.
The holidays are creeping up. Remember the annual Handmade from the Heart sale at the Dr. Daniel Fisher House in Edgartown on Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hospice is seeking handmade items, photos, artwork and like items for their sale. All proceeds go directly to our Hospice work on Martha’s Vineyard. Call 508-693-0189 if you can contribute in any way.
