The girls’ hockey team fell to Latin Academy 4-2 in their first round of postseason play Monday afternoon, eliminating the team from the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament.

The game was played in Boston.

Three Vineyard teams now remain in the tournament. All will play at home beginning Wednesday when the boys’ basketball team takes on Bourne at 5:15 p.m. in the Sancy Pachico Gymnasium at the regional high school.

On Thursday the girls’ basketball team will play the winner of the Fairhaven-Apponequet game at home at 5:15 p.m. Boys' hockey will face off against Dedham at 3:30 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Arena.

Postseason seedings were announced over the weekend.

Boys’ hockey has a 15-4-1 record, the Vineyard’s best in head coach Matt Mincone’s 24-year tenure with the team. The boys earned the number two seed in their bracket (South Division 2). Dedham is a number 15 seed.

Girls’ basketball similarly bounces into the postseason with the team’s best record in their coach’s tenure: 16-4. Lisa Stewart has coached the team for seven years. The team earned a number three seed in the South Division 3 bracket and received a bye in the preliminary round.

With a record of 15-4, the boys' basketball team is seeded seventh in the South Division 3 bracket. Bourne is seeded 10th in their bracket.

In the Monday girls' hockey game against Latin Academy, the Vineyard jumped on the board first with a second-period power play goal by junior Callie Jackson (assisted by sophomore Sydney Davies), but Latin responded immediately after. A breakaway shorthanded goal by sophomore Aubrey Ashmun later in the period put the Vineyard ahead again. Latin pulled away in the third, scoring their last goal on an empty net with two seconds left in the game.

The Vineyard girls finish their season with a 10-8-3 record.
