I was watching Ellen Degeneres’ show today and she told her audience that it sure was hot outside. She said it was 102 degrees so I turned on the guide to see if this was a repeat episode and it was not. Now I’m thinking it is 50 degrees today and it is chilly. I would much rather have it that way then trying to keep cool.

Happy birthday to all of you who celebrated your day this past week. Big balloons go out to Summer Cardoza, who celebrated her day May 13. Jeremias Esnal, Roa Sanchez and Matthew Smith celebrated on May 14, Rhanna DeOliveira and Shannon Levesque celebrated on May 16, and happy birthday to Olivia Pate who celebrated her day on May 17.

Lily Pulitzer has left Edgartown. The Pink and Green Weekend seemed to be a success. Donaroma’s set off the celebration with an open house that seemed to please everyone from five to OMG. The little girls showed up in their pink princess dresses and their hats to go along with their outfits. Some boys even showed up with period clothing, and they all loved the scavenger hunt in the nursery. For their reward they received an annual plant to get their garden started. They, for the most part, were excited until one young person received a prize and responded “That’s it?” I asked what they expected from a plant nursery and they responded with “Something from nature!” Oh well, we tried.

The dog show was also a success. There were a few dogs that made it to the show in their own pink and green; one dog sporting pink flowers with green centers. Some people asked if that is animal cruelty, but I have watched this process being done and the only one it is cruel to is the groomer. The color is made of powder and is blown on so groomers have to be careful they don’t inhale the powder when they apply it.

I hear the ball was a success and that everyone had a great time. So when all is said and done, the board of trade must be smiling over their weekend.

The newest addition to the popular new Martha’s Vineyard Film Society Theatre in Vineyard Haven, a dazzling white grand piano, will be put to the test on Friday, May 24, when MVCMS artistic director and pianist Delores Stevens, with violist Lila Brown, presents a 30 minute program beginning at 6 p.m. The piano is on loan from the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society.

I was shopping on Tuesday at Stop & Shop and as I was standing in the checkout line waiting for the credit card machine to go through the motions, a mother and her two young girls were checking out in the next lane. Things were quiet and all of a sudden we heard one of the girls who was playing with the credit card machine say loudly “But mommy I’m only using my imagination!” Now you may have had to be there to appreciate the comment, but it made many of us laugh and feel like we wish we were only using our imagination. Unfortunately, with all of us laughing we embarrassed the poor young lady but I hope her mom explained why it was so funny.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
