The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is grateful to all those pets who brought their people to the Pink and Green Weekend in Edgartown last Saturday. The fashion star was a chihuahua togged out in those colors topped by a stunning hat. The Black Dog mascot showed up, a perfect example of the Labrador breed, to give out balloons to passers-by. The shelter’s fund for a new roof was increased by several donations. Some cookbooks and placemats were sold. The rain held off as well. A successful event in all respects.
There is good news on the adoption front. Last week we mentioned Odie, our newly arrived boxer/lab cross. It must have been his sweet face and gentle disposition that endeared him to his new owners. He has been neutered and immunized by the shelter and will be going to his new family this week. Happy trails to Odie and his lucky adoptive family!
The male and female orange kittens that were abandoned by the side of the road in Aquinnah are now eating solid food after having been bottle fed originally. They define the word cute. They have received their shots, so forever homes are on the horizon. We have a long list of people waiting for kittens so we know they will not be with us very long. They are too young to be spayed or neutered, but the shelter requires a deposit which will be returned when the new owner shows proof that the procedures have been performed.
These kittens will soon grow to adulthood like the full-grown cats at the shelter still awaiting homes. If anyone has an empty lap to fill, Rosie or Hazel, Hero or Lotus, Michael or Simon would love to settle there. Please go to the Shelter’s Facebook page to see them. Better yet, pay us a visit to see them in the flesh (and fur).
Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown MA 02539.
