Happiness is sun and warm weather, which we have had, as well as the ocean breeze along with it. Some people complained about the breeze because it brought the temperature down. I reminded them that we will love that ocean breeze in July and August when the cities are 90 degrees and we hold at 80 degrees.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Pedro Alves, who celebrated his day May 18; Madison Palmer on May 19; Amelia Craig and Lukas Fenske on May 20; Heather Kirwin on May 21; Cayden Bresett and Espen Desquenne on May 23, and to Ryan Murray who celebrates his day today, May 25.
I can’t start this column without sending thoughts and prayers to the people in Oklahoma. It has been such an emotional few months for many people and their families. We can only send our support to all.
This is the month that starts all the graduations. College graduations have been happening all over the state. Among the graduates is Megan Rose, who graduated from Bridgewater State University. Also, Christopher Conklin graduated from UMass Lowell, and Emily Mercier from Smith College.
The households of Bill and Beth Erickson, and Glenn and Rosemary Jackson have been busy and excited this week. Their daughter, Laura, who lives in Livermore, Me., has just been named to the president’s list for her 4.0 average this semester from her online college course through Everest University where she is studying business management. Also, their granddaughter Halley Martin just graduated from high school in Illinois, and their oldest granddaughter Victoria is working toward her nursing degree in Illinois. During all this, their daughter Jennifer and her husband Mark and their two youngest daughters Danielle and Sherelyn just moved to Bethlehem, Pa., from Arizona. They are making a trip to the Vineyard this weekend, and I am sure there will be lots of celebrations. Jennifer is looking forward to visiting her grandparents and Sonny and Gerry Jackson.
Facebook was covered this weekend with pictures of the young ladies and gentlemen going to the prom. They all looked so beautiful in their long gowns with their hair all done up, and the young men looked so handsome in their tuxes. The only thing that made me sad was that these were the kids of people I worked with, and they weren’t even born when I started to work with them. Then it took me back to my own prom, which I remembered was 40 years ago. Yikes!
Well, this is Memorial Day weekend and we all know what that means. We will see our friends on the street, and then we can look forward to fall when we get to see them again.
Whatever you are doing, I hope you are safe and please take time out to remember those who gave up their tomorrows so we could have ours.
