Aquinnah Public Library will host Green Living with Gary Harcourt and Larry Schubert on Tuesday, June 25 at 5 p.m. at the Aquinnah town hall. Our Up-Island Council on Aging director Joyce Bowker reminds us that our UPIS LAND elders will host their annual art show today from noon to 4 p.m. at Howes House and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy the fruits of their labor from the Friday artists group.

While in the middle of West Tisbury on Saturday, stop by the 25th annual West Tisbury Congregational Church Strawberry Festival from noon to 4 p.m. Try the strawberry shortcake, or have yours with vanilla ice cream, or in a smoothie, or just berries to go.

The voting polls will be open on Tuesday, June 25 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. This is a very important election and you may still complete an absentee ballot through Monday. Exercise your right to vote. See you at the polls. Democracy is not a spectator sport.

Corley Maciel will be honored on Saturday, June 29 at the PA Club in Oak Bluffs from 4:30 p.m. till closing. Corley suffered a stroke at his young age in December and his extended Maciel family and friends will support him in a fundraising event that evening to assist him with his medical care over his prolonged recovery. Enjoy the food, music and silent auction while helping a friend.

Lydia Fischer, daughter of Bert and Linda, will arrive from her Brooklyn home next week to perform with David Wax Museum and fellow musicians Alysse Fischer, Jason Nichols, and Alex Karalekas at Flatbread on July 3. Molly Fischer has arrived home from her sophomore year of studies at Ithaca College. We will see her around town in her multitude of jobs for the season.

Dr. Elliott Frankuchen and Dr. Lisa Kantrowitz have arrived at their Aquinnah home for the season. Their children will be arriving for visits over the 4th of July and Labor Day weekends. Otherwise, their summer work and activities have taken these young adults elsewhere for the summer.

Bill and Joan Kistner returned to their home in Pleasant Valley, N.Y. (never to be confused with Pleasantville where I resided for four years), on Monday after spending the weekend with our grandson Noah to celebrate his seventh birthday.

Barry Lutender and his wife Judith (Barker) have arrived at their Aquinnah home for the season.

Noah James Manning had the most wonderful birthday celebration over the weekend but more on that in my column next week.

Peter Ochs and his wife Gudrun returned to their home in Vienna, Austria, after spending the past six weeks at the Cameron home in Aquinnah.

Get well wishes to Jay Smalley who has been a patient at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital over the past week.

Joe Spinelli and John McKinstry have arrived for the summer. Stop by to see them at the antique and jewelry show today at the Grange from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Joe has a rather unique display ready for his first day.

Tiffany Vanderhoop and her children Brian, Maysel and Novella have arrived from Masset, British Columbia, to reside with her father David, his wife Saskia and Nanauwe for the summer.

Happy 43rd anniversary to Bruce and Adriana Ignacio on June 27.
