Roxane Ackerman returned home on Saturday after a brief stay in Brooklyn, returning with her daughter Naushon and eight-month-old granddaughter Nanawusuwee, who will be visiting family and friends for the week in Aquinnah.
Congratulations to Amera Ignacio and Todd Vanderhoop on the birth of their son (yet to be named), who was born at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital on June 30. He is the grandson of Rick Vanderhoop, Patty Young and Adriana and Bruce Ignacio. He is the great grandson of Anne Vanderhoop Madison.
Kate Murphy Kausch, her husband Timmy and their 10-month-old son Noah have arrived in Aquinnah from Salt Lake City, Utah to vacation with her parents Tom and Chris Murphy of Old South Road. Kate is the director of child care services at the University of Utah. This will be Noah’s second visit to his grandparent’s home, having made his Vineyard debut in December with the Murphy and Kausch clans enjoying Noah’s first Christmas in Aquinnah.
All the best to Gloria (Francis) Mendez and Michael Fontes on their wedding day July 6 in Aquinnah. Gloria is the daughter of Barbara (Perry) Francis and the late Carol Irving Francis. Michael is the son of the late Michael and Marie Fontes.
Did you see Pat Z. Preston in Aquinnah for a two-week stay? She was graciously house sitting for Hollis and Robin Smith. While in Aquinnah, she enjoyed catching up with Anne Vanderhoop at the Aquinnah Shop where Pat had worked for many years. We now find her at Menemsha Galley each summer.
Enos Ray will have a display of his latest artwork at the Bank of Martha’s Vineyard at Beetlebung Corner where his new show opens today. There will be an opening reception from 4 to 6 p.m. this afternoon on the lawn at the bank. Enos will have his art on display through July 12.
Congratulations to Patrick Sullivan and his bride Donna O’Brien who were married in a beautiful outdoor amphitheater on Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder, Colo. on May 19. Patrick is the son of Barry and Dorothy Sullivan of Aquinnah. The newlyweds are looking forward to an Aquinnah visit soon. Barry and Dottie’s daughter Jackie and her husband Jeff will be visiting later this month to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. Daughter Katie and her friend Kurt will visit in August. They miss all of their friends and co-workers at The Chilmark Tavern. Barry and Dottie are looking forward to their stay through the autumn months.
Durwood Vanderhoop, his wife Jamie Sue and their 10-and-a-half-month-old son Sowanahsh are in Hope Valley, R.I. this week visiting the Spears clan for the holiday weekend.
Congratulations to Captain William D. Vanderhoop Jr., aka Captain Buddy for Tomahawk Charters, and his runner-up position in the Best of the Vineyard award for 2013.
John Wightman will present Island Images, his latest photographs of mostly up-Island scenes, at the Bank of Martha’s Vineyard at Beetlebung Corner from July 12 through July 19. John and Jan will have an opening reception on July 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. on the lawn at the bank.
