The fall youth hockey season reached its midpoint earlier this month. Last weekend, the Travel Mites took on Dennis-Yarmouth in what head coach James McKeon described as a total team effort of unselfish hockey. Led by Nick BenDavid, Parker Blake, Maks Pacheco and Micah Simmons, the Mites scored 21 goals to Falmouth’s four. Paige Anderson, Chase Grant, Ingrid Gundersen and Vinnie Paciello all scored as well
The Squirts 2 team fell 2-1 on Saturday to a tough Attleborough North Devils team, with Riley Sylvia holding down the fort in net. The Squirts had several counterattacks and good scoring chances, but managed just one goal. Midway through the second period, Jack Walsh made a perfect pass to twin brother Alex, who stuffed it for the goal. Earlier this month, the Squirts took on Franklin for a close 3-1 win. The Vineyard did not give up any breakaway chances, head coach Sandy King reported. Kaleb Hatt potted two goals, with Jake Cleland picking up a third. Jake and Kaleb also notched assists, as did Harper Hearn.
The Peewees earned a close 4-3 win over Oliver Ames in their home game on October 12. Pete Gillis and Hunter Meader each had a goal and an assist. Lauren Boyd had two assists, and Hoffie Hearn had one assist. The defense was anchored by Kenny Hatt and Jackson Pachico, while Mike Metcalf tended goal.
The Squirts play at home against Cape Cod Canal on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
