The weather has drastically changed from autumn to winter already. Most of the leaves have left and we’ve had a few mornings in the 20s. We had blustery winds mid week with boats and airplanes being cancelled.

Deer hunting by shotgun begins on Monday so please dress appropriately. Deer may be checked in at the tribal check-in station from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week. Perhaps you would consider donating a deer or two to the tribe — ask about the donation program.

Dan Sauer and his wife Noni Madison returned this past week after a very quick trip to meet her cousin Holly (Jenkinson) Bario in Manhattan for dinner. Holly has once again produced another great DreamWorks movie, Delivery Man, starring Vince Vaughn. One will find Holly in Chilmark with her parents Pat and Joan Jenkinson for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Anne Vanderhoop Madison has arrived home from her three-week ordeal, which included hospitals and rehab. She is using a walker for now, but will most likely toss it aside to get ready to host her holiday open house.

My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Sally Dixon Wiener who passed away at her home in Manhattan on Nov. 13. Sally and her late husband John and their children enjoyed their Aquinnah home for the past half century, and later it was enjoyed by their grandchildren. Sally was a retired journalist and one of my critics. I am very fortunate to have spent time with Sally and her friend Van Rogers during her recent stay at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. We had a very lengthy and historic visit, and she wanted to share her Aquinnah memories. Sally is survived by her children John, Ellen and Ann, and by her grandchildren Sophia, Claire, Emma and Samuel — she was incredibly proud of them and their accomplishments. Sally is also survived by her devoted companion Van Rogers. A memorial service will be held on the Vineyard next summer.
