The winter wonderland has returned with about eight inches of snow on Saturday that slowed most of us down, with the exception of emergency services and the snow plows and sanders. Many people remained at home, as planes were cancelled in Boston, not allowing them to venture to warmer climes as they had planned. Sledding at Aquinnah Circle was enjoyed by the young ones. Now, for the ice beneath our feet. Spring is getting closer!

There is a Lego competition at the Aquinnah Public Library on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. Your creation may win you a prize. On Thursday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. there will be another dinner and movie for the kids. This is the final week of amnesty, so please bring your overdue materials and donations for the Food Pantry to wipe your slate of fines clean.

There will be a workshop at Felix Neck on Saturday, Feb. 22 from 1 to 4 p.m. to learn how to identify skeletal remains. This is an interactive program to identify the animal remains you may find in the fields, the woodlands or along the shore. The workshop is $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. For further information, please call Felix Neck at 508-627-4850.

Condolences to the family and friends of Judy Davey who passed away at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital this week. Judy and I caught up with each other just recently to reminisce. We will miss her and her beautiful arrangements.

Condolences to the family and friends of Grace Hughes Frye who passed away at home this week. Grace covered the Vineyard as an Avon representative for half a century. We enjoyed attending Avon meetings together over the years and especially the tour of the Manhattan corporate offices. Of course Grace was one of the most productive sales ladies and won many awards and prizes over the years. She is survived by her son Vincent Frye, her stepdaughter Grace Frye Reeves and her husband Barry Reeves, her grandchildren Ralph Harding, Edward Harris and David Harris, and great-grandchildren Chelsea Harris and Eric Frazier.

Condolences to the family and friends of Dolores Kenyon, known affectionately by all as Kit, who passed away recently following a long illness. Her husband Edward (Tip) Kenyon and family will have a memorial service at the Frist Congregational Church in West Tisbury in May. Kit will be missed by all on Abel’s Hill.

Menasha Leport and her six Chilmark School classmates returned recently from their skiing trip to Sugarloaf Mountain. Her mom Nancy Leport was one of the chaperones.

Alexandra Taylor had to cancel her weekend travel plans to Florida when the storm arrived, remaining at home until her next adventure.

Sorry if you missed the Cats performances at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School over the weekend. The dancers twirled into our hearts as their cat tails twirled as well. The music, the dance, the performance — all truly amazing and very well done. Kudos to the students, the director, the faculty, the families and especially to the volunteer musicians.
