Well, in three short weeks spring will be here. However with all the snow we have piled in parking lots and wherever else we could find to pile it, I’m not sure we will feel it. It has been funny this past week to follow friends on social media. There are so many saying they have had enough. Some are saying they are happy the rain is coming only to be reminded that with the rain melting the snow and the weather turning cold, we get ice. But my favorite saying has been, “I want to have my feet in the ocean and my butt in the sand.” Well, you could do that here but you would still be cold. Although tonight my neighbor called me and told me to go look off the back of my deck and there it was, a beautiful rainbow to put a smile on my face — and I’m sure many others.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Nathan Cuthbert and Devin Hill who celebrated their day Feb. 15; Jackson Pachico, Kaitlyn Freeman and Ana Kurelja on Feb. 18, and to Olivia Coyle who celebrated Feb. 19.

Edgartown Democrats will hold a caucus this Saturday, Feb. 22, at 10 a.m. at the library to elect three delegates and three alternates to the state convention in June. At the convention, delegates will vote for candidates to be in the Democratic primary for governor and since there are five announced, the state convention should be lively. All Edgartown Democrats (and anyone else interested) are invited to the caucus this Saturday. Call Christina Brown at 508-627-5534 for more information.

I went to the Edgartown paint store as it is time to get the living room painted and maybe the back hall before I go back to work. So, while I was talking to Coo, he had a smile on his face and asked if I had heard the story about him and his grandson Troy’s snowy owl.

It seems that they were walking down the Katama bike path and the owl was flying around. The pair stopped and watched as he landed across the field just close enough for them to get a picture. Troy was all excited about seeing this owl and he proclaimed him as his pet.

So the next Sunday Coo and Troy, along with Donna, Coo’s wife, and Julianna, their granddaughter, along with Troy’s sister all got in their truck and took a ride out to Norton Point with the hopes of seeing the owl out there. They drove all the way down to the end and sure enough, the owl was almost to the point. They were able to get a few pictures, but the kids wanted out of the truck and after they took just a few steps forward, the owl flew away. They waited around a little while with the hopes the owl might return but he did not. So, the family turned around and made their way home. Coo decided to go back on the pond side to check things out (we know he was checking for clamming spots), and they were pleasantly surprised that the owl had flown around and landed on one of the fence posts that was very close to the truck. They slowed down and got some great pictures and were able to watch the owl for a long time. Troy was so proud of his new friend — and the fact that he was able to take some pictures of his own.

Don’t forget that this Saturday, Feb. 22, there will be a benefit for Susan Jackson at the Portuguese-American Club from 6 to 10 p.m. with music, lasagna dinner, silent auction and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets are $20 at the door. Susan has been fighting cancer and is traveling back and forth to Falmouth for treatment. Anything you can do will help. If you want to just make a donation you can get in touch with Kevin Searle.

I hope you are all getting enough sleep. The Olympics has been keeping a lot of people up late or getting up early to watch the hockey games. It has been a fun Olympics to watch and I am glad that everyone has stayed safe.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
