It is eerily quiet on the Island these days and at the Animal Shelter as well. A former tenant of the Shelter, Daisy, a handsome lady who was adopted a couple of years ago, did not find a “forever home.” Due to circumstances beyond her control, she has had multiple owners since. She must be very confused to find herself back where she began.
Daisy is seven with a beautiful gray coat touched with caramel.
The cat room is still providing shelter from the interminable storms for Bubba, who prefers to be an indoor cat, O.B., she of the dyspeptic disposition, Penny, the old lady in the rocking chair, and Tortellini, a tortoiseshell female who is not picky about her environment.
All of them prefer the warmth and care provided by the staff and volunteers of the Animal Shelter to the bleak, icy terrain outside the doors. Those lucky enough to own a pet of any kind must be diligent about keeping them safe and warm during this foul and freakish winter.
Take heart, the days are lengthening and Daylight Saving Time is but 15 days away!
Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662. Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown, MA 02539.
