Though they are often misunderstood, horseshoe crabs play an important role as bait and in biomedical industries. Susie Bowman from the Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary and Fred Hotchkiss, director of the Marine Paleobiological Research Institute, are taking their horseshoe crab show on the road as they visit Island libraries over the next two months.
The free presentation Horseshoe Crabs: A Story of Beach Trysts and Blue Bloods comes first to the Oak Bluffs library at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 20. They will be at the Vineyard Haven library on Tuesday, March 25, at 7 p.m., the Chilmark library on Wednesday, April 9, at 5 p.m., and the Edgartown library on Wednesday, April 16 at 5:30 p.m.
