The sun is shining, the birds are singing, the crocuses are blooming but it is still darn cold. The weatherman says it is to be warmer this weekend. Let’s hope he is right.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Lillian Kurelja and Brianna Oliveira, who celebrated their day March 17; Rachel Fish, March 19; Mackenzie Duart, March 20, and to Jack Chronister, who celebrates his day today, March 22.

For my 60th birthday my nieces took me to see Mama Mia at the Providence Performing Art Center. This is one thing I wish I could do more of. We had a great time and the show was fabulous. We had great seats and it was all we could do to not stand up and dance and sing along.

Congratulations to Keira Mercier, who has been accepted and sworn into the Army. Keira is a senior and will report to Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri in September. Keira, who is the daughter of Lindsey Mercier, will be training for military police. Congratulations Keira, and best wishes to you. We are all so proud of you!

People are happy now that the Wharf is open again after a month of restoration, spring cleaning and some much-needed rest. That also means the trivia night started on Wednesday and Danny Cassidy and his mom, Pam, have got more interesting questions and some fun categories for us to figure out. We will also be happy to see Amelia and Lark, who are always on the run on trivia nights to keep us full and hydrated.

I try to keep this column uplifting and happy but sometimes it is a hard thing to do. I have to send sympathy prayers to many Island families. This month we have lost so many friends both young and old. There were four in just one day and if I paid tribute to all of them the paper would not be big enough. We are thinking of all the friends and family and send our thoughts and prayers to them.

I, among many, have been enjoying the daylight that now lasts until 7 p.m. Besides getting some painting done in the house, I have managed to get a walk in here and there. Also, I have noticed some outside activities at the playground, and I’m sure I will be hearing the ping of the baseball bats soon.
