Chilmark has pushed the go button. A couple of hours of sunshine and we are off and running toward our busier seasons. You can feel the buzz on the roads as pickup trucks are off to the many chores that need moderate weather for doing, and the rest of us are thinking about the outdoor activities that we are eager to be doing. April literally breezed by and didn’t leave much besides daffodils to promise spring. The holiday weekend brought many to town. Early home openings and school vacation visitors were in abundance. Signs of shop openings are around town. Betsy Larsen’s sign says she will open on May 1. However, Pathways Projects at the Chilmark Tavern will complete their events this weekend for the season. It has been well received and offers artists in many mediums an opportunity to work and exchange ideas through the winter months. Town meeting will be on April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the community center. Moderator Everett Poole will guide us through the warrant and, as always, we will spend some money! Voting for commission members will be on Wednesday at the community center with polls open from noon to 8 p.m.

Joan Malkin would appreciate your write-in vote for the Planning Board. She has been serving on this board and now is ready to run for a regular seat to replace her temporary status. Remember, volunteers run Chilmark. We value them.

Congratulations to happy grandparents Jon and Joanna Cole who are proudly telling us about the birth of their second grandchild, Charlotte Grace Bach born April 16 to their daughter, Nonnie Cole and her husband Gabe Bach. Charlotte weighed in at 7 pounds 10 ounces and was welcomed by her four year old sister, Lydia Rose. Cheers from us all.

The 33rd Women’s Symposium will convene on April 28 at the Chilmark Community Center from 9 a.m. to noon. The subject this time is Dreams. There will be talks, discussions and refreshments. Donations are appreciated.

Congratulations to Tim Carroll who qualified for the Coast Guard Auxiliary Boat Crew Certification. Martha’s Vineyard is moving toward having an auxiliary flotilla. He was awarded the certificate at the Menemsha Coast Guard Station this week along with a West Tisbury candidate, Glenn DeBlase. Cheers to you.

Beach Plum Inn’s chef, Chris Fischer, has been featured in a remarkable video produced by Bon Appetit. It is a great look at what the modern chef does to bring us fresh food. Worth checking out at bonappetit.com.

Nancy Aronie tells us she will conduct a Writing From the Heart workshop at her Chilmark home on May 5 through 8, from 9 a.m. to noon. Please contact her at 978-369-9763 or online. She will have a program at Concord Academy on May 15 called Conversation Pot Luck: Nancy Aronie, Suzy Becker and Catherine Newman talking on writing, life and the origins of chicken fingers. The program is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Concord Museum. Tickets are available.

Thanks to our highway superintendent, Keith Emin and his helpers, our roadsides are looking trim and ready for green grass and leafed-out trees. Many trees and shrubs killed this winter have been cut and cleared, making driving safer on many curves on town roads.

Menemsha welcomes a new pleasure boat to the harbor. Riggs and Helen Parker have a new fishing boat that boasts an electric motor. It is a Duffy 22 foot Cuddy Cabin named Sparky. Happy fishing.

Please remember to send me the latest news. We are coming up to graduations, and I enjoy sharing events with your friends and neighbors.
