Memorial Day weekend is open season for some of the Island’s lighthouses. The Gay Head Light at Aquinnah Circle will be open weekends from May 24 to June 15 and on Memorial Day, May 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. From June 16 to Oct. 13, the lighthouse will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and in June and July, the Gay Head Light is open evenings on Fridays and Saturdays from 7 to 9 p.m. and in August and September from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Edgartown Light will open weekends from May 24 to June 15 and on Memorial Day, May 26, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be open daily from June 16 though Labor Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Fridays in July and August from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. It will remain open weekends from Sept. 6 to Oct. 12 and on Columbus Day, Oct. 13, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The East Chop Light on Telegraph Hill in Oak Bluffs is open for sunsets, weather permitting, on Sunday evenings in June and July, from 7 to 9 p.m. and in August and September, it will be open Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m.
Admission for all lighthouses is $5 for adults; admission is free for children under 12 and for members of the Martha’s Vineyard Museum. For more information, call 508-627-4441.
