Amazing — that is all many of us can say over the past few days. Carl Widdiss has been very private regarding his medical care over the past few years, but a request for donations on Facebook went viral this week when his family and friends generously donated and reached one goal in about 36 hours. To donate on Facebook, type in Widdiss and find the Gofundme set up for Carl.
Carl is now undergoing treatment in Phoenix, Ariz. He has not been able to work while undergoing chemotherapy as well as holistic treatment for his cancer in Boston and at home. His bills have been adding up — cost of treatments in Boston, travel to Phoenix, and the cost of medical care and medications not covered by insurance are adding to his disease. He anticipates being able to return home for a few weeks and then will return to Phoenix to continue his treatment. Everyone has asked what they could do for Carl. So, in the meantime, we have rallied around to support Carl in his time of need. He is one of the most selfless in our midst, always there to assist a friend or neighbor. It is anticipated that a fund will be set up with You’ve Got a Friend for donations to be sent to West Tisbury. You can send a check directly to Carl at 5 Harpoon Hollow, Aquinnah, MA 02535. For further information, contact yours truly at 508-645-2574 or Paul Manning at 508-645-9340.
