Can Martha’s Vineyard take three Nancy Gardellas? I hope so, because it is happening now. My sister in law, the redheaded Nancy Gardella, arrived on the second boat today with her son Jonathan. Nonna is very pleased to have her youngest grandson visiting before he heads to Florida for his annual Bible camp. Jon has won a scholarship to a music camp in Detroit later this month, so he has that to prepare for as well. Nancy and Jonathan have been up from their Fort Meyers home to their White Plains, N.Y., home. Jonathan has played fiddle at Irish Night at Dunne’s Pub every Wednesday. The blonde Nancy Gardella can be found at our chamber of commerce, and I’m the brunette and the original.

Paul and Mage Howes welcomed their New Jersey family last night. Son in law Javier and daughter Julia Gomez Blanco arrived from the their East Brunswick home. Keeping their parents company are 10-year-old Aidan and seven-year-old Olivia. The family has planned a grand reunion. Julia and the kids will stay at least a month, what a treat for our ‘hood. Olivia is signed up for tennis lessons and Aidan will try his hand at sailing with Sail MV. Everyone is used to the usual Howes’ routine of favorite haunts: town beach at Owen Little Way, crabbing, clamming, the Flying Horses, family sports and I personally am looking forward to having my great dog walker, Aidan, back on the job. Silvio and Lil’Bit are anxious to get their boy back in training again. I am so glad Aidan took up this job last summer, especially as I can not lift anything heavy yet, or walk those hooligans on a leash.

Bill and Jan Stokes have returned to their summer home. Jan has arrived just in time to see how beautifully her garden is growing. I feel bad when you seasonals do not always get to see the fruits of your labors in your plantings.

The Friends of the Vineyard Haven Public Library bring us some fabulous programs. On Tuesday, July 8, popular musician Ellen Allard presents a musical story time at 11 a.m. for ages three and up. Please note there is no 10 a.m. story time on that day. On Thursday, July 10, at 4 p.m. kids age 5 and up explore Laughing Yoga with Emily Solarazza. Remember that our library, usually open until 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday nights, will close by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8 so we may all meet at the street fair. There is free parking at the high school and buses to transport you.

I’m sneaking this in about Renaissance House because some of our favorite authors from all over the Island will be speaking at next Tuesday night’s salon at 7:30 p.m. Three Good Lookin’ Poets (and talented, too) will present the latest from their chap books. Here is the lineup: Mike West, Dan Waters and Jason Ahern. Be still my heart!

Confidential to Lyn K: I am reading a very interesting book lent by my friend, Gail Becker. It is by Nick Clooney, yes, the heartthrob’s father, about movies that have changed our lives. Nonna finished Seal Team Six by Howard E. Wasden and Stephen Templin. She is now practicing reading aloud The Man in the Ceiling by Jules Feiffer. Jonathan and Nonna have spent years reading together. Jonathan is also always entranced with Island authors. I promised them this would be perfect.

Belated birthday balloons to a special man, Charlie Moore, who turned a significant number yesterday. I am not allowed to reveal the number in print. Call me.

Anniversary bouquets go out to Tim and Tootie (Rosemary) Kieffer today. July 9 marks many years of wedded bliss for Steve and Judy Nichols.

The birthday bandwagon patriotically pulls along Cora Medeiros, Steve McCarthy, Derek Araujo, Steve Nichols and Marianne Thomas today. July 5 is shared by Michael McCluskey and Pat Murphy. July 6 is a party for Carol Fleming, Selma Balbino and Kerry Sertl. July 7 shines on Kyle Natichioni, Peggy Jewett, Cathy Burdick and Julie Fisher. July 8 honors Jordan Stallings. July 9 is claimed by Nancy Hoffmann, Nathan Herrick, Betty Cormier, Bruce Bailey and Richard Clark. And on July 10, Russell Burrows, Orla O’Connor and Ketlyn Carolyn Alves take the cake. Many happy returns.
