As a tree-focused botanical garden, an arboretum has a significant influence on environmental issues. Dr. Gerry Donnelly, president and CEO of the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Ill., will share his insights about the roles and responsibilities of public gardens in relation to today’s communities in a presentation at Polly Hill Arboretum at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16.
Founded in 1922, and with a direct connection to the origin of Arbor Day, the Morton Arboretum addresses contemporary needs through initiatives on plant collections, education, science and conservation. Dr. Donnelly has held his position at the Morton Arboretum since 1990, directing the operations, strategies and growth of the institution, which provides leadership to the world’s arboreta.
Admission for the event, which is sponsored by Heather Gardens, is $10, or $5 for arboretum members.
