Celebrate Aquinnah Public Safety Day on July 26 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Aquinnah fire station. A special pinning ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. for those who assisted Christopher MacLeod when he suffered a cardiac arrest on June 18. It will be a fun afternoon with food, child care seat safety checkups, give-aways, a bounce house and touch a truck, all sponsored by the Aquinnah fire department, Aquinnah police department and Tri-Town ambulance.

Today at the Aquinnah Cultural Center, there will be tours of the Vanderhoop homestead from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be the 8th annual Native American Artisan’s Festival with artists from the Aquinnah Wampanoag, Mashpee, Narraganset, Oneida and Abenaki tribes who will demonstrate their art and sell their finished work. Native foods will be provided by Orange Peel Bakery. On Wednesday, July 30, there will be house tours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information, please call 508-645-7900.

The Committee to Elect State Sen. Dan Wolf gathers this evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Field Gallery in West Tisbury. Suggested donations range from $100 to $500 towards his campaign.

Island Autism Group will sponsor an auction and raffle on July 30 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Daniel Fisher House. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Light refreshments will be served. For information, please call Marcy at 508-693-2106.

Nancy Caldwell will be the guest speaker on Thursday, July 31, at 5 p.m. at the Aquinnah town hall for the Aquinnah Public Library series. She will discuss Negotiating Troubled Water between Christopher Columbus and Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain. Refreshments will be served. On July 26, Ladybug Girl visits the library and on July 29 at 2 p.m. the Spindrift Puppets will present their puppet show.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Patricia Costa who passed away at her Oak Bluffs home on July 16. A family friend of many generations. Pat was very committed to her town and to her family and friends, always there to assist where needed. She was a delight to work with at the Oak Bluffs town hall while she served as the town treasurer and yours truly served on the personnel board. Her beautiful service with her eulogy by Kerry Alley was held on Wednesday morning at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. Patricia was survived by her sister Virginia Hall, her nephew Fred Hall and her nieces Heather Hall, as well as Nancy and Janet Marshall, daughters of her late sister Julienne, and their families.

Condolences to the family and friends of Donald DeSorcy who passed away this week. He was a true craftsman in his profession, teaching many along the way and always with a twinkle in his eye. He was survived by his children Josepha, Simone and Leo.

Get well wishes to Adriana Giles Ignacio who was transferred this week from Massachusetts General Hospital to Spaulding Rehab. Following several surgeries over the past two weeks, she will have extensive therapy over the next month. Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Edwin Landers who passed away at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital on July 15. Ed was from a family of fellow shellfishermen of years gone by. A graveside service will be held on July 27 at 12:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Bluffs.

Condolences to the family and friends of Violet Waters who passed away at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital this week. Violet was a co-worker at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital in the 1980s. Her services were held on Wednesday afternoon.

Carl Widdiss is continuing to improve. He will hopefully be home in a few weeks, but in the meantime your prayers and thoughts have carried him through.
