What beautiful weather we have been having. I know there are many happy brides who have had beautiful weekend days for their outdoor weddings. As much as I love this weather I have to say we do need some rain. I don’t want to curse us, but the ponds are very low and the ground is dry and I feel sorry for the animals that depend on ponds and other sources for water.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Matheus Brito, Christopher Cardoza and Michael Magaraci, who all celebrated their day Sept. 20; Aidan Nunes, Sept. 22; Michael Waters, Sept. 25, and to Victor DeSouza who celebrates his day today, Sept. 26.

Special birthday wishes go out to Mike Donaroma who celebrated his day Sept. 23.

This is one of my favorite times of year for flowers. I really love the chrysanthemums, the pansies and pumpkins. I also love to watch the people put their pots together. I am one of those people who like color in my gardens, after all, that is what a garden is — flowers of all colors and heights. So I love to watch each person’s taste in a garden.

A speedy recovery wish goes out to Marge Look who is now a patient at Spaulding Rehab in Braintree. Marge is doing well, but I’m sure would love to hear from her Island friends. So if you would like to write her a note or send a card you can send it to Marge Look, 250 Pond Road, Room 207S, Braintree, MA 02184.

Mass Audubon’s Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary welcomes one and all to a free event on Sunday, Oct. 12, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our Fern and Feather Day Camp. The family-friendly, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. celebration at the sanctuary will focus on fun, food, music and memories. Since 1964, the day camp has been teaching children about the wonders of the natural world, and lots of alums, former staff, and folks that just love Felix Neck are expected to attend and share stories.

There will be plenty of opportunities to explore the 350-acre sanctuary when participants are not taking part in a full menu of special events.

Director Suzan Bellincampi promises the gathering will provide a fitting salute to Fern and Feather’s commemorative season: “Fifty years is cause for a celebration and the entire community is looking forward to bringing Gus Ben David back to Felix Neck, along with Island musicians and artists, to enjoy an afternoon with others that hold the sanctuary dear and remember the good times that they had here.”

For more information, visit massaudubon.org/felixneck or call them at 508-627-4850, or email felixneck@massaudubon.org.

There is a change at the corner of Robinson Road on school days. Pat Lawrence has been the crossing guard there for many years and has now retired from that job. I loved to see Pat and talk about the flowers in my front yard and to see how the kids and grandchildren are doing. Pat is still teaching at the school, so we can still see her there. Now, we have a very nice new crossing guard Jessica Estrella. Jessica has a great way with the children and it is nice to see her smiling face in the morning on my way to work.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
