There is nothing I can say about this week and how beautiful the sky has been and how warm it was. Of course the leaves are still falling, but there is still a hint of color in some trees.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Victoria Marsh and Bruno Munoz who celebrated their day Oct. 27; Sydney Bruguiere and Tobias Russell, Oct. 29; Lillie Cabral on Oct. 30, and to Joshua Brown who celebrates his day today, Oct. 31,

I’m sure if you have driven around town you have noticed the little scarecrows hanging out in front of the stores. They are done every year by the Martha’s Vineyard Charter School. Every year I try to pick my favorite but they are all too good. I think the one that gets to me most this year is the three out in front of the Clarion. I drive past them every morning and I still get a start.

The Edgartown library is celebrating National Family Literacy Month in November. Everyone is invited to the original 1904 library to apply for a free membership card in the CLAMS library network.

Having a CLAMS card, which automatically makes its owner a member of all six Island libraries and 32 more across Cape Cod, is really its own reward. But the library is sweetening the deal this November in an effort to prepare townspeople for the new library building. Everyone who applies for and receives a new library card will be entered in a raffle drawing for gift certificates for discounts at a restaurant in town.

And just because the Edgartown library loves its current patrons as much as its new ones, anyone who visits the library this November and asks at the desk can be entered in the restaurant raffle.

With Halloween today (Friday) we are reminded that the next holiday is Thanksgiving, only five weeks away, which means Christmas is nine weeks away. I don’t know about anyone else, but I have no shopping done! There goes last year’s promise.

Don’t forget to turn your clocks back on Saturday night. We get an extra hour of sleep.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
