Friday is Halloween and all around the Island the spooky and the ghoulish will be running the show. Vineyard Haven holds the unofficial title of Halloween headquarters as William street becomes the go to place to trick-or-treat. The Vineyard Haven Main street comes alive from 3 to 4 p.m. with a parade, plus trick-or-treating at the shops afterwards. Come dusk, everyone heads to William street for more haunting and treats.

There will be several street closures in Vineyard Haven to allow for safe tricks and treats. Franklin street will be closed from Clough Lane to Spring street. Centre street, Church street, Drmmr Lane and Colonial Lane will be closed at Main street, and William street will be closed at Spring street. The closures will take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Aquinnah celebrates the holiday with a Halloween party from at the tribal building from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31.

Elsewhere around the Island, the West Tisbury library hosts a Halloween party from 3:30 to 5 p.m., and the Chilmark Volunteer Fire Department gets the scary groove going at the Chilmark Community Center beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Agricultural Hall hosts a party from 6 to 8 p.m., complete with hayrides through the West Tisbury graveyard.

Alex’s Place at the YMCA is holding a dance party and costume competition from 7 to 10 p.m.

For all the nightcrawlers out there, the Boogies will play their 10th annual Halloween dance concert at the Lampost. Prize of $500 goes to best costume.

Kids can bring out the costumes again on Saturday, when the Edgartown Board of Trade hosts their annual Happy Haunting event, which includes a costume contest, music, and trick or treating in downtown Edgartown. Events take place between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
