Mother Nature surely showed us who was boss this past weekend. Wind, rain, wind, and more wind. It was pretty much like a hurricane. We were lucky to only have lost power for a few hours, and that was early in the morning.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Gianni Navarrete and Tristan Scheller who celebrated their day Nov. 2; Gabriel Brito, Nov. 3, and to Hannah McCormick and Katherine Punda who celebrate their day today, Nov. 7.

Even with the bad weather this past weekend, it did not stop the true diehard Patriots fans. With the forecast of the storm, there were some who packed up and left on Saturday and headed toward the closest hotel to Foxboro. Then there were those who put on their foul weather gear and took the Patriot to Falmouth. For those of you who don’t know what the Patriot is, it is a boat that runs between Falmouth and the Vineyard that delivers newspapers and other supplies, plus commuters who need to be on the Island early in the morning. It takes just short of a typhoon for it to be canceled. So off these brave souls went, and one posted a video of the rough seas. I was very happy to be in my own chair with the remote in my hand watching the game.

Ellen Blodgett and her dog Millie traveled to Rhode Island to the NEPG/Barkleigh Fall Fest Grooming Seminar. She met up with her fellow groomers, one of them being Vanessa Ciancio who is an Island friend now living in Rhode Island and opening her own business. They all attended different classes.

One of the events was creative grooming, which is why Millie went along. Ellen had colored fur her as one of the newest TY babies. They won third place in the event. Vanessa and her dog Tink were also entered and they won second place. They also won the Peoples Choice award. It was their first time in this event, so they did very well.

Millie has been many colors in her little life, so I can’t wait to see what next year will bring and how many colors she will be from now until then. All of you who are wondering about the dye used in this process, all are perfectly safe and made for dogs. Ellen also uses a blow dye that is a powder and only temporary.

With all fun aside, they both became certified in pet rescue by the American Red Cross. Congratulations to both of you on all counts.

The Edgartown School is presenting The Little Mermaid this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7 and 8, at 7 p.m. Adult tickets are $8 and children get in for $6.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
