My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Elmore (Bud) Mayhew who passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital on Nov. 7. Bud always had a welcoming smile for everyone, a tale or two about Vineyard life over the years, and we enjoyed sharing our historical knowledge and genealogical interests. He will be missed along his daily route from the post office to Over South antiques, to the Chilmark Chandlery, to Menemsha Fish Market, the Bite, Menemsha Galley and to Menemsha Texaco and lively conversation on Squid Row. He will be greatly missed by his lifelong Chilmark friends and extended family. Visiting hours were held at Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home on Tuesday evening. Burial services were held on Wednesday morning at the family plot at the West Tisbury cemetery. His family and friends gathered at Chilmark Community Center to honor Bud.
