Oak Bluffs police are searching for the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit and run accident Wednesday night on County Road near Trade Winds Airfield.

According to a press release from the police department, a 28-year-old woman got off a school bus on County Road near the Trade Winds Airfield at about 9:46 p.m. Wednesday. As she attempted to cross County Road in a crosswalk, a vehicle traveling south, or outbound, on County Road struck the woman, knocking her to the ground and injuring her. Police said the vehicle, possibly a van, did not have headlights on.

Oak Bluffs police said on their Facebook page that the school bus was transporting students from adult education courses.

Police said the woman crawled home, where a family member helped her and transported her to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, where she was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

An investigation continues into the incident, police said, with officers in the process of viewing video surveillance from the school bus. Those with information about the incident are asked to contact the Oak Bluffs Police Department at 508-693-0750 or to send the Oak Bluffs Police Department a message on Facebook.
