We have had almost all the different weather patterns that New England could have. Wind, rain, sun, warm, cool and cold, and yes even snow. We even had a thunderstorm. I read on Facebook a saying, “Thunderstorms in fall no snow at all.” We will see how that turns out.

My article did not get lost in cyberspace last week. I came home last Tuesday to find I had no internet, Wi-Fi, or telephone. I called Comcast (on my cell phone) and told them my problem and they tried all the typical things, reboot, unplug and they sent a signal through and nothing, which meant I needed a service call. The cable guy came and fixed the problem and proceeded to tell me that when men were working on the lines outside they had feedback coming from my house so they put a filter on my line. This meant nothing to me, it sounded like the teacher in Charlie Brown. Wa wa wa is what I heard. So I asked why they could not tell me when they did that so we could fix the situation, he said that was not part of his job and did not know why they could not communicate with me. Anyway it is fixed and things are back to normal.

I hate to say it but Thanksgiving is next week and then Christmas. We got the poinsettias in, Christmas cactus, cyclamen, and the greens and wreaths will be here by next week. I guess it is time to start some shopping.

The always-popular Appraisal Day is back at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum with experts from Skinner, Inc. providing appraisals and evaluating prized objects and collectibles. Skinner may consign items with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the museum.

Reservations are required for all appraisals. Each individual may bring up to three items for appraisal. They encourage early reservations as this event usually sells out.

Appraisal Day will take place Saturday, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appraisals are $15 for one item or $40 for three items. To make a reservation, call Jessica Johnson at 508-627-4441 ext. 117 or email jjohnson@mvmuseum.org. Please be prepared to give a brief description of your item(s) when making reservations.

Jonathan, Tina, J.J. and Audrey Polleys traveled to Agawam to visit Jonathans mother Barbara and stepfather Charlie Parker. They had a great weekend and Barbara and Charlie were very happy to see everyone and happy to see their grandchildren and how much they have grown since they last saw them. Barbara’s Island friends will be happy to know that she is doing well and has adapted to her new home.

The Island Cup is Saturday at 1:30 p.m. here on the Vineyard! Please come and cheer on your Vineyarders and be a part of the salute to our veterans ceremony at halftime. If you know of any veterans who may be on‐Island, please encourage them to come.

If for some reason my article gets lost in cyberspace or I get cut off again, I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
