With the beginning of winter sports tryouts comes the start of fall awards season. Twenty Vineyard athletes were named to the Eastern Athletic Conference all-star roster.

Five players on the boys’ varsity soccer team received the honor. Seniors Brandon Dwane, Alex GordonBeck, Elie Jordi and Ben Poole, along with junior Jason Lages, all earned a nod. This is the second year Lages and Poole have made the list.

Poole, a co-captain and four-year varsity player, was also named to the Massachusetts all-state team. A defensive anchor throughout his tenure with the team, Poole was also a clutch force on the offense, as evidenced by his two post-season goals this year.

Junior Kaela Vecchia-Zeitz represented the Vineyard girls’ soccer team on the Eastern Athletic all-star list.

Football senior co-captains David Macias and Mike Mussell were named all-stars, as were juniors Jacob Cardoza and Ben Clark. Macias, Mussell, and Cardoza set new single-season records for the team this year.

Sophomore golfers Chris Mayhew and Finn Simpkins made the list for the first time. Both competed in the individual round of the division three state tournament. The entire golf team advanced to the finals of the state tournament for the second year in a row.

Cross country senior captain Julia Neville made her second appearance on the all-star roster. She was joined by sophomores Patrick Best, Aivaras Gedvilas, and Pearl Vercruysse.

Senior field hockey captain Aubrey Ashmun was also a repeat all-star. Fellow captain Olivia Ogden also represented the squad, along with junior Belle Dinning and sophomore goalie Julia Bettencourt.
