Two Island men were arraigned last week on drug charges after police said they arrived at an Oak Bluffs parking lot to allegedly sell heroin.

Emmett M. Cook, 21, of Edgartown, and Patrick McHugh, 29, of Oak Bluffs were arrested Feb. 6 by members of the Martha’s Vineyard Drug Task Force. According to a police report, officers assigned to the task force received information about a drug transaction that would take place at the Our Market parking lot. According to police, Mr. McHugh and Mr. Cook were arrested after arriving at the parking lot, and police allegedly located three individually wrapped plastic bags of a powdery substance consistent with heroin in Mr. Cook’s pants pocket. Police said they also found a Clonazepam pill and two folded pieces of paper containing a substance consistent with heroin on Mr. Cook.

According to the police report, Mr. McHugh allegedly admitted to acting as a middle man to help Mr. Cook with drug deals.

Police said 2.7 grams of heroin were found in the bags, which had a $450 value. More than $500 was also seized from Mr. Cook, police said.

Mr. Cook was arraigned on Feb. 9 in Edgartown district court on charges of possessing to distribute a class A drug (heroin), possessing a class C drug (Clonazepam), and conspiracy to violate drug law. Bail was set at $3,500, with further bail conditions of remaining illicit drug-free with screens and not to contact Mr. McHugh. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for March 6.
