Snow, more snow, and a little more snow. It has already snowed three out of four nights this week thus far. Sleet, rain, a little warmer to melt some of the ice and snow and then create a little more ice. And, spring is just two weeks away. Chronologically, the winter will end but realistically there is no end in sight for this awful weather.
There will be another afternoon of fun at the Aquinnah Public Library Saturday afternoon with time to spend on crafts with the staff. Coffee and tea will be served all day. Stop in for the fun.
Anxious Kids, Anxious Parents: Strategies to Break the Worry Cycle, a presentation by Lynn Lyons, will take place with the Martha’s Vineyard Youth Task Force sponsoring on March 10. There will be a workshop for Island educators and professionals at the Performing Arts Center at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. Then in the evening, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center, there will be a presentation for Island parents and community members. This workshop teaches the seven concrete strategies that normalize worry and put families on offense rather than defense. The goal is not the elimination of symptoms, but the ability to respond and react to worry in a different way.

Condolences to the family and friends of Noah Block who passed away at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital a week ago. I am grateful for my time spent with Noah and his wife Susan, having known his mother Sophie Block made our visits much more interesting.
Condolences to the family and friends of fellow Vineyard Gazette columnist Will Monast. His tales were all very interesting for us to indulge in.
Noah James Manning returned home over the weekend after an extended vacation. First he traveled to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to visit with his Kistner family and to attend to his grandmother Joan Kistner in the hospital. He spent time with his cousin Billy with walks to the frozen Hudson River and time with cousins Ali and Stephie. Next it was off to North Conway, N.H., with his mother Theresa to spend a few days with Chris and Kendra Carroll and their daughters Oona and Emme; Tauras and Ellen Biskus with their children Kestutis, Grazina and Tauras Jr.; Daniel and Meeghan Athearn and their children Clara, Zebediah and Penelope, and Daniel and Shannon Carbon and their children John and Elizabeth for a wonderful week. The families spent the week together in a large home where they enjoyed nightly dinners together and were joined one evening by neighboring vacationers Lisa Magnarelli and Laura Denman and their children Georgia, Gannon and Lucy. While the parents enjoyed their evenings upstairs, the children had a family room where they played foosball, pool, learned how to play poker, and just spent hours of time together. A few of the children learned how to ski during the week. Noah certainly enjoyed going from the bunny trail to skiing down the slopes and riding back up in a gondola lift. They all enjoyed themselves immensely.
