The Island Community Chorus presents its spring concerts on Saturday and Sunday, April 11 and 12, at the Old Whaling Church with a program of choral music that features the works of the contemporary Norwegian-American composer, Ola Gjeilo. The community chorus is comprised of nearly 100 members, under the direction of Peter Boak, with accompanist Garrett Brown and Island instrumentalists on saxophone and strings.

The choir will sing four of Gjeilo’s compositions for choir and instruments — Northern Lights, Evening Prayer, The Ground, and Across the Vast, Eternal Sky.

Also on the program are a piece from Largo of Dvorak’s New World Symphony, a Latin chant adapted by the composer Edvard Grieg, and Morten Lauridsen’s interpretation of the James Agee poem, Sure on This Shining Night; Goin’ Home.

The concerts will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is a suggested donation of $15 at the door.
