A Wareham woman has been charged with larceny after police said she allegedly broke into and resided at an Edgartown home and sold or gave away items in the house.

Edgartown police said Michelle Filkins, 44, was arrested after police responded to a past breaking and entering on Court street, off the Road to the Plains. Ms. Filkins had allegedly been living at the home for no longer than two weeks, Edgartown Det. Sgt. Christopher Dolby told the Gazette Monday, and a caretaker discovered the breaking and entering when checking on the home.

Ms. Filkins was arraigned on April 17 in Edgartown district court on charges of breaking and entering a building in the nighttime for a felony, larceny more than $250 and malicious destruction of property more than $250.

According to court documents, Ms. Filkins was held without bail pending transport to Falmouth for a medical exam. She is next scheduled to be in court on May 14.

According to Detective Sergeant Dolby, a construction worker in the neighborhood said he had allegedly seen Ms. Filkins outside with items from the home, and she appeared to be having a yard sale or giving the items away.

Police are asking anyone who received items from the home to return them to the Edgartown police department. According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, items missing include four deck chairs from Crate & Barrel, a Weber grill, two side tables from Ethan Allen, one Ann Chase lamp, two lamps from Crate & Barrel, two framed posters, various pots, pans, and linens, and a painting by the owner.

"If in fact you did purchase something you are a victim as well and EPD will assist you in seeking restitution via the court prosecution of this case," the police department said on Facebook.
