Rosa rugosa are in full bloom along the shore. Bright fuschia and white blossoms awaiting to bear fruit in a few weeks. We finally had a significant downpour on Monday to wash away the pollen. Summer is almost here.

The antique flea market at the Grange in West Tisbury will begin Friday and will run every Friday through mid-October. Stop by from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and find some treasures. Joe Spinelli will be there near the entrance with his eclectic array of jewelry and occasional antiques. See you there.

Jeffrey Duarte and his friend Alyssa Fields arrived from Oklahoma on Tuesday to spend the summer with his parents Christy and Leigh Vanderhoop and his brothers Levi and Isaac.

Congratulations to Mariah Duarte upon her graduation from Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School on Sunday. Mariah is the daughter of Richard Duarte and Michelle Malcouronne of Aquinnah. She will be headed to Paul Mitchell School in the fall after working at Maggie’s Salon for the past few years.

Get well wishes to Garth Nance Edwards who is presently undergoing medical care in North Carolina.

Congratulations to Michael Gilman who has been transferred to the Chilmark Post Office from the Vineyard Haven Post Office. And speaking of the post office, congratulations to John Hirt who has become the postmaster in West Tisbury. He transferred from Vineyard Haven and for many years worked in Chilmark.

Condolences to the family and friends of MVRHS schoolmate Peter Hathaway of Edgartown who passed away recently. It was nice to catch up with him a year ago amidst his family and friends.

The Kimber home is bursting with joy at the arrival of their first grandchild. Welcome to Phoebe Mae Esposito who was born May 6 in Providence, R.I. at Women and Infants Hospital. Phoebe is the first grandchild of Kim and Sarah Kimber and the great-granddaughter of Kim and Bobbie Kimber of Abel’s Hill. Everyone is patiently awaiting her arrival on the Vineyard for a three-week stay. Phoebe is the daughter of Nic and Casey Esposito.

Hannah Malkin and her guest arrived on Monday from her winter home in West Palm Beach, Fla. Her niece and nephew, Bobbi and Eric Malkin, returned to Florida on Saturday after spending the past two weeks at their aunt’s home while enjoying the Vineyard fare.

Two grand ladies of the Vineyard celebrated their birthdays this week. Florence Flanders celebrated her 99th year on June 12. She was a former Tisbury School teacher of years gone by. Rena Fischer celebrated her 100th birthday on June 14 surrounded by her four children, Douglas, Marie, Suzanne, and Albert, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Happy birthday wishes to Dr. Thomas Green as he celebrates Friday. Faith Smalley will party Friday as well. Jemima James will celebrate on June 21. Fawn Fantasia celebrates on June 22 as will Matthew Stackpole. Tnisha Chandler and Damon Runyan share the day on June 24. Carly Simon will celebrate on June 25 and shares the day with Robert Schiller. June James MacDonald will celebrate her special day on June 26 and shares the day with Edward Fantasia and Judy Lana Peterson.
