On June 27, North Water street in Edgartown will be crowded with classic cars during the first ever Car-B-Q Classic beginning at 9:30 a.m. and stretching to 2 p.m. The organizers are hoping to make it an annual affair on the Island.

The event was originally scheduled for June 21, Father's Day, but has been rescheduled because the forecast calls for rain.

“Both Nantucket and Hyannis have Father’s Day auto shows,” said Skip Finley, director of sales and marketing for the sponsor of the event, the Vineyard Gazette Media Group. “So there’s some residual tradition in it for us too.”

The event will kick off with a parade of classic cars through Edgartown to the Harbor View Hotel where the main festivities will take place — cars and barbecue, of course. Food and cold drinks are provided by the Harbor View Hotel, and cars will be on display at the hotel after the parade. A best-in-show award will be presented at the end of the day, with registered voters comprised of those who entered cars in the competition. There will also be a selection of pictures of classic cars on display and for sale from the collections of the Martha’s Vineyard Museum. A portion of the picture sale revenue will go the museum.

The cost of entering a car in the show is $25, which includes two free tickets to the lunch and the opportunity to have professional photographs taken of the participant and his or her family along with the car. The event and lunch is open to everyone, even those who prefer to walk or bike.

All proceeds from car entry fees for the event will go to the Tisbury Firefighters Association to help raise money for fallen firefighters.
