When Livingston Taylor steps on the stage of the Old Whaling Church on Friday, July 10, he will most likely be thinking about one thing — the audience. Why? Because he loves his audiences — always.
In addition to a 40-plus career of performing, Mr. Taylor has long taught the art of performance at the Berklee College of Music. One of the main things he tries to relate to his students is that without audiences, there would be no concerts. In a nutshell, his advice is to stop taking yourself so seriously on stage and spread the love. It’s a credo he’s known for, which is why so many look forward each year to his annual Vineyard concert.
Mr. Taylor has recorded multiple top 40 hits and toured with some of the biggest bands in the world, including Jimmy Buffett and Jethro Tull. But what he enjoys most is playing on his home Island, with just a guitar, his voice and stories, and often a host of surprise guests — many of whom he is related to.
This year’s concert also features Chelsea Berry, a singer songwriter who was raised in Alaska but now calls the north shore of Boston her home.
The Old Whaling Church is located at 89 Main street in Edgartown. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets prices are $55 (for the first seven rows) and $35 for general admission. Visit ticketsmv.com.
