If you haven’t heard American alternative rock band Walk the Moon’s runaway hit single, Shut Up and Dance, then you probably don’t own a radio or listen to one. Ever.
The song is the band’s biggest hit single to date, peaking at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and at number one on Billboard’s alternative songs chart. And this weekend it is coming to Martha’s Vineyard — live.
Walk the Moon is this year’s headliner for the annual Stars and Stripes concert to benefit the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard. The concert is Friday, July 3, beginning at 7 p.m. at Flatbread Company, 17 Airport Road, Edgartown.
Walk the Moon has been a part of this event before, and many Vineyarders now have the opportunity to say I saw them when they were just starting out. But after appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers and The Ellen DeGeneres show the band has definitely arrived.
This is the fifth anniversary of the Stars and Stripes festival. Additional musicians at the show include returning artist Alex Winston, and newcomers ASTR and Santah. And as per tradition, two local high school musicians will also get a chance to play. Who knows, they could be another Walk the Moon in the making.
Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door, and identification is required for the 21+ show. Purchase tickets at brownpapertickets.com or ticketsmv.org.
