There is only one word that describes this week’s weather and that is HOT! I personally do not like it this hot. I lived with “Nanuk of the North” for 28 years and learned to like the cold and got used to sleeping with the window open even if it was snowing or less than 30 degrees.

And then there are those who thrive on heat. I would rather put more clothes on to get warm than try to figure out how to cool off. That brings up another thought; why is it that when it is cold out we go in the house and turn the heat up to at least 70, and then when the heat is here we go in and turn the air conditioner on to 65 or more?

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Talia Young who celebrated her day July 19, Judah Levy and Ashlynn Meader, July 20, and to Georgia DeRoche who celebrates her day Friday, July 24.

This past weekend was the Portuguese Feast, and to a lot of us it is the chance to catch up with people we haven’t seen for a year or so. It is like the prelude to the Ag Fair for reunions of friends.

I went up with Pam Dolby’s husband and of course Pam went also. We went up early enough so it was not so crowded but we saw and caught up with a lot of friends. We had some good food and of course some fried dough from the Dough Boys.

After the feast we went to Dave Weagle and Linley Dolby’s. They had some friends and relatives over and a yard full of fun. Corn ball and music with videos on an outdoor screen were the activities of the night. I got to tour their new home which is not totally finished but it is a beautiful home. All in all it was a fun night.

Friends of the Edgartown Free Public Library and the Martha’s Vineyard Museum invite you to see a pop-up exhibit of photographs and artifacts that trace the library’s evolution from a room full of books over a Main street store to the vibrant community center it is today. The event will take place Friday, August 7, from 5 to 7 p.m,, so mark your calendars.
