Traffic on Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs came to a halt Tuesday evening when a large tree limb fell across the busy street. The limb split at abut 8:30 p.m., following a day of rain and an especially heavy period of precipitation that began at about 5 p.m.

Witnesses said they heard a loud crack when the limb fell.

Three vehicles were all but obscured under the foliage, but there appeared to be little damage.

The tree fell in front of the Hollywood Nails salon, across the street from the Black Dog clothing store.

There were no power outages reported, and pedestrians continued shopping and strolling the avenue while police waited for a utility crew to arrive and clear the downed tree limb.

The street was cleared and traffic was moving again by 9:45 p.m.
