I am so done with the heat. I can’t wait for the nice crisp air of fall and be able to dress comfortably and be able to sleep at night with the blankets on. But they say that the humidity will be breaking soon and that will make the heat more bearable.
Happy birthday to all are celebrating their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Anthony Chick and Harley Snowden who celebrated their day August 22; Michael Courtney and Joseph Serpa, August 24; Daniel Luna, Emma Searle and Penelope Thornton, August 25; Brannan Gerard, August 27; and to Rayssa Donato who celebrates Friday, August 28.
Special birthday and anniversary wishes to David Weagle and wife Linley Dolby who celebrated their day August 23. They got married this day because Linley says it never rains on her birthday. I thought this year she might have been wrong but as I watched the weather radar coming towards the Vineyard it literally separated and went all around us and never left a drop on us. So the record still stands no rain on Linley’s birthday.
Not to dwell on the weather and the heat, but the other night when I was making dinner, I giggled to myself thinking about how a few months back I had mentioned in the column that you know it is cold out when the butter on the counter is still as hard as if it was in the refrigerator. So when I went to get the butter the other night it was so soft I had to use a spoon to get it out of the dish. I know, I know, people are saying why are you leaving the butter out in this weather. Well we always did and I never think to put it in the fridge and I’m still here so it must not go bad.
On September 4, at 6 p.m. will be the Annual Evening of Music on the Lagoon. Adele Dreyer and Peter Boak will be at the piano playing all things lunar. The event will be held at the home of Jim and Pam Butterick, 359 Barnes Road, Oak Bluffs. Wine and appetizers will be served at sunset. This will benefit the Federated Church organ fund and Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard. All donations are greatly appreciated.
My great niece Amanda Brown was here during all the activities this past week. She did Illumination with boyfriend Thom Lambert, and we all did the fair on Thursday with my niece Lori Noble and her children Sabrina, 3, and Benjamin, 18 months. We did all we could possibly do at the fair and we ate all the bad things that everyone loves.
With all that going on I was not feeling like the fireworks but Amanda talked me into going to the beach with sandwiches and cold drinks. We went early so we enjoyed the end of the swimmers and watched some kids fishing and had some great auntie and niece time. Then more people came to watch the show which I have to say from where we were was pretty nice. We watched the finale and went to the car. I was wondering how hard it was going to be to turn around, but I looked behind us and in front of us and it was like someone said 1, 2, 3, and all the cars both in front and in back all turned at the same time. It was quite comical yet so great and we were home at 9:55 p.m. You could not have asked for a better night.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
